Wind Synth - Audio Visual Systems
WindSynth code test
I was inspired by the “random music” instrument in Croatia known as the sea organ in which the waves from the Mediterranean push air through concrete holes of different sizes to make eerie beautiful music from the motion of the sea. Taking this concept of randomness in music i built this WindSynth to harness open-source wind speed data to control various random aspects of the synth composition. In this example the wind speed data from NYC controls the beats per minute of the meter. the image is an archived picture of a radar weather detector from the 1960s and the sound symbols are wind speed markers called wind barbs developed in 1941 when weather was recorded on paper journals.
Made using openframeworks and the oscillator plugin this circular step synth’s playback speed is effected by live wind data from Brooklyn, NY. More info on my code blog here
